I just drove up New Priest Grade Road to Yosemite

from Roanoke Va. I'm planning my trip out west for May, June and July with a great fear of the unknown. Much of that fear is gone now thanks to a new feature added by google maps with pictures of roads. This is sooooo cool. Any spot on the road you get a 360 deg view of where you are on the map. Move it up a little more see a little more. Now I have a much better idea of what to expect. This may be old news to some, but check it out if you have not tried it.

RE: These people are driving me crazy!!

We are on the do not call list, but we started getting a lot of calls for surveys and opinion polls. When this happens I tell them I charge $125 per survey. I tell them to send me a check and a phone number and when it clears I will call them to take the survey. I haven't gotten any checks nor given any surveys. For some reason they lose interest.

RE: Stove ignition problem

Other stoves like mine have an individual spark gap at each burner. Follow the same procedure to remove the cover and look for an igniter beside each burner. Turn the igniter knob and look for a spark at each burner. If one of them is not sparking it may be out of position or the ,
After taking the stove apart today this is the kind I have. When I turn the central igniter knob, I can see the back two spark, but still no joy on the front one. I cleaned it the best I could and there didn't seem to be any kind of build up. All the wires are snug. What do y'all think of me moving the front one back to one of the back units and a back unit to the front? If it lights back there that would indicate a wire, and if the back one sparks on the front, that pretty much woulld incicate a faulty unit on the front one. Thanks to all who responded, especially to the member who took the time to post the pictures.

Stove ignition problem

I'm having trouble igniting the front burner of the gas stove. The back two burners will spark and light. The front burner will light using a hand held lighter but will not light using the built in igniter. Has anyone one replaced an igniter since this seems to be the source of my problem?

Leak around TV antenna

Two weeks ago while in Maine and getting 8 inches of rain and wind I noticed a leak around the TV antenna coming in through the turning handle. Today I cleaned the roof and looked there for a leak. On the base plate the caulk seemed fine ( no cracks that I could see). The only way I could see it coming in was under the turning wheel. Has anyone seen a similar leak in a high rain/wind event?

Blowing out lines...End result

As a newbie I'm still doing things for the first time. Per owners manual I blew out the lines. While the owners manual tells me what to do and barely how do to it I can't tell if I have done it right. I put a compressor on the adapter and put on the city water intake. Some water came out of the faucets but mostly air. I have opened the low point drain twice and some water did come out of there. I can see in the hot water by pass system and there seems to be no water in those pipes. The question is...am I done and good to go after I put anti freeze in the traps or am I missing something here and still have things to do?

RE: Spare Break Away cable

Two weeks ago on my departure saftey check I found mine had worn in two in the loop that attaches to the frame. At my next stop I found a local hardware store that had cable ( a fraction bigger than orginal) and cable clamps. $3 and 15 minutes later I was good to go. I'm sure a Home Depot or Lowes would have had the same material or as in my case a local hardware store in Byron NY.

Niagara Falls Don't be a sucker like me

Just a heads up, perhaps many of you already know. We stayed in a campground in Byron NY about an hour away from Niagara Falls just an hour drive, no problem. The problem occurred when I got there. Being a country kinda guy from Va I try and do what I am told. I'm looking for a place to park, following all the signs and just as I'm ready to pull into the state park area there is a girl on the corner waving a yellow flag yelling "all falls parking this way" ok ...so I do as I'm told follow the flag men and women pulling in front of the car behind me almost wrecking. It's a scam and they direct you to a privately owned parking lot. Turns out at this point to be the same price ($10 but I was later told when the state parking gets full it doubles to $20), but then I'm in front of THEIR welcome center, they give me their sell on the tours etc and I decided I'm point to back off and look around and get a straight story. We went across the street to the STATE welcome center, got the $30 passport and had an AWMSOME time. The boat ride and Caves of the Wind are musts, walking around the park is nice, movie is so so, Food is OUTRAQGEIOUS!! pack your own The aquarium was so so and of course the falls are magnificent. All in all we had a great time. So when you drive up and see one of these idiots directing you to their lot, show them they are number one and go where you want to park.
One last note. I talked to 2 park rangers and police and they said they have tried to do something about these tactics and the guy has a high priced lawyer and has continued get away with it. They said one guy got so mad last month he stood out in the street and walked down to the waiting cars telling the drivers what is going on. One of these days I may make the 500 miles trip and do the exact same thing

RE: Does anyone have a Jay Feather 311

We are loving ours. It came down the the Rockwood 8318 or the 311 and after two years of looking we went with the Jayco product. The only issue so far is that like some other Jay Feathers manufactured about Jan or Feb the axles had to be replaced. Jayco and our dealer Camptown RV took care of that with virtually no problems at all. Like some of the longer light weight units, it bounces some when set up. I bought four jacks stands and will try those next week at the beach. We enjoy the room added by the two slides and the priviacy of the second bedroom. Some don't like the electic awning, since this is my first unit, I don't know any different and if there is a weather problem it takes a whole 45 seconds to bring it in which I enjoy. Starting next week we are hitting the road for a month and from what I have seen so far, we are going to have a great time in the 311.

RE: Jayco fuse service bulletin

When did you get the letter? I have the same trailer and have not been notified yet by Jayco. Does it apply or limit trailers by VIN or serail numbers? or does it apply to all 2008 25F's?
Mine is dated June 08 as follows
Jayco Inc. has become aware that on certain Jayco 2008 Greyhawk and Melbourne motorhomes and Jay Feather travel trailers, the converter was manufactured with two -(2) 25 amp fuses instead of two-(2) 30 amp fuses.
Our records indicate that your recreational vehicle may have been affected. Please contact your closest Jayco dealer to schedule an appointment. etc etc
This last statement leads me to believe they know what units that the problem possibly exists on.

Boston to Washington

I'm planning a trip to New England this fall (Sept/Oct). We will be going from the Boston Area to the Washington area. It looks like it is a bit more than I want to drive in one day, especially since I will be going through major metroplolitian areas. Two questions, what can I traffic issues can I expect ( I plan to go the long way around NYC) and what is a good place to overnight about half way? I've spent the last two hours trying to find a decent campground along the way, but the pickens look sparce. Thanks in advance.

RE: Jayco Models 29A, 29X, 311, and 30U Thoughts?

I have the 311 and pull with a Nissan Titan. I don't know how that compares to your TV, but I'm not having any problems. Going up the hills and mountains of western Va my highest RPM has been 3000 only once and briefly. On the flats at 60 mph between 1900 and 2100. As mentioned the Jayfeathers have a lower frontal area that cuts down wind resistance. My only issue so far is the axels and that will be fixed in 3 weeks. My load limit is 7850 which still gives me almost a ton cushion on the trucks towing capicity.

RE: Camping World

I was there Saturday. I didn't look at the units they have for sale. They have a number of service bays and the retail area was well stocked. Easy on and off from 81. Prices looked about what they have online.

RE: Campgrounds turning away business

I understand that CG's have certain policies, but to turn away business when you have openings is just plain nuts
It's a business policy I don't understand as well. It's not only confined to campgrounds. It seems some businesses rather make NO money than a little money. An empty site is generating no income. At least occupied at a lower cost is covering some of the fixed costs and cash flow. Like you said, it's just nuts.

RE: OK...this may be obvious to some but....

Mine I believe is on the front of the DVD player. I plug the TV headphone port (in the back of TV) into the DVD/radio, change function to "AUX" and the TV sound comes through the ceiling speakers.

I hear ya. I thought I had it lined up right on the mark. The next command was "about a foot left". So I cranked it hard to move it left..you can guess what was really was intended.

RE: Camping World, Dealer or WallyWorld

If you are not pressed for time use Amazon. I bought a lot from them. They carry a lot of Camco products which is what is at Walmart. After $25 shipping is free on most items and most of the time there is no sales tax. Now if you "gotta have it now" this goes out the window and you have to get it where you can.

RE: Electric awning debate

I can't speak for the manual since my one and only trailer came with an electric awning. It's a carefree on a Jayco Jayfeather. It comes out almost straight. I'm 6'1" and I can't touch the awning with my hand. We were told that it has an automatic dumping system and when the weight of the water reaches a certain point it will V in a certain point dump the water and return to it's shape. I can tell you it takes less than 45 seconds to extend and retract, so if there is even a hint of a storm or high winds it is really no big deal to bring it in. Based on what I have seen (not experienced) I prefer the electric over the manual from a pure hassel stand point. Time will tell with added use. I guess it's what you are used to.

RE: Titan towing capacity

I couldn't make a 5th wheel work. My Titan will tow 9400 lbs but it has a weak back. The gross vehicle weight on the door jam is 6440. My truck weight with a full tank of gas and my two bills was 5330, no other people or cargo which just left me about 1000 pounds for a pin dropped in the bed. I could not find the floor plan I wanted for less than 1300 pounds of pin weight. I've seen Titans with a 5th wheel, but there is little doubt in my mind they are well over the manufacturers weight limits on the truck. I can only see it working on a very small 5th wheel.
